Independence Oaks and Wint Nature Center will be closed to the public for managed deer hunts.
Independence Oaks-North will remain open to the general public during these dates; 8 a.m. - one-half hour after sunset.
The Wint Nature Center can be reached at 248-625-6473 to schedule (based on availability) outreach services, but no field trips or in-park services will be available on hunt dates.
 
The hunt is part of Oakland County Parks and Recreation's wildlife management program to reduce and maintain the Whitetail Deer (antlerless only) population at the park. Questions can be directed to Natural Resources Coordinator Brittany Bird at 248-858-1726.

Saturday. Young birders ages 8–15 along with adult friends are invited to learn about Oakland Owlets, a young birder’s club through the Oakland Audubon Society. Club members and the club coordinator will share some of the exciting events and opportunities to become better birders, like participating in a century-old tradition—the Audubon Christmas Bird Count. Discover the importance of counting birds and why birds matter. Sponsored in partnership with
the Oakland Audubon Society.

Recycle Christmas Trees seven days. The parks system will process the trees. In 2015, wood chips will be available free to the public at Orion oaks County Park on select days. PELEASE NOTE: No charge to drop off trees; No commercial trees accepted, and; Plastic, tinsel and wire mush be removed from trees. Extended recycling dates through Feb. 3, 2015 at Independence Oaks and Orion Oaks only.
