Parks & Recreation Job Info

The parks system hires more than 600 seasonal employees--great jobs for college students, senior citizens and high school students (16 years or older).

Lifeguard
Comfortable, confident in the water? Ensure guest safety at either waterparks or beaches by supervising swimming areas, enforcing rules, performing first aid and responding to emergency situations. Support customer service efforts by performing general cleaning and maintenance tasks. Lifeguards are trained by Oakland County Parks and Recreation and must participate in regular in-service training to maintain the highest level of lifeguard skills.

Parks & Rec Attendant
Consider yourself a people-person? Direct interaction with customers at the point of sale to answer questions, take reservations, coordinate facility entry and complete cash transactions. Act as host to visitors by providing directions, explaining facilities and enforcing rules. Maintain appearance of park facilities by completing general cleaning tasks. Opportunities available at campgrounds, dog parks, day use facilities or waterparks.


Seasonal Program Specialist
Have previous leadership experience? Assist full time staff with managing the operation and coordination of park facilities or special events. Oversee daily operations including staff schedules, cash management and inventory. Manage customer interactions by training staff, answering questions, resolving concerns and coordinating large-scale activities and events. Provide expertise in a specialized program area to serve a variety of park patrons and event attendees.

Program Leader
Want to get paid for having fun? Provide recreational activities for park visitors of all ages. Work in a team setting to plan, implement and evaluate programs for specialized program areas and populations, mobile recreation and special events.

Seasonal Laborer
Good with your hands? Support customer service efforts by performing entry-level unskilled manual tasks such as cleaning, grounds-keeping and mowing to maintain park facilities in a clean and attractive condition. Use tools and power equipment such as chainsaws, line trimmers and mowers to complete jobs. Opportunities available at campgrounds, dog parks, day use facilities, golf courses or waterparks. Must be 18 years or older.

Student
Perform unskilled or semi–skilled duties, mostly clerical in nature. High school or college students are generally budgeted to work 20 hours per week during the school year and may be retained to work full–time during summer. Must be at least 16 years of age and in pursuit of a diploma, degree or certificate.

Internship
Internships are available in parks and recreation and natural resources.
