Horticulture Programs

  Choose from several different educational experiences at the Waterford Oaks Greenhouse! 
Greenhouse Tour and Workshop
This outstanding program includes a tour of our working greenhouse and an introduction of plants. It also includes a tour of the Ernst Barn which may be one of the oldest standing structures in Waterford Township. Students will learn to identify plant parts and learn about proper plant care. Each student will transplant a seedling to bring back to the classroom for observation and further study.
FEE: $3/ person, minimum $30 group fee. 



Education and Field Trips
Educational classes and programs are offered for all ages, year-round. Programs have included topics such as composting, vegetable gardening, landscaping, native plants and insect and plant diseases. Educational opportunities for children include Grocery Bag Botany and Insects: Pest versus Pal. Many other topics are available. If you are interested in programming or have an educational opportunity available, please contact Beth Highley at highleyb@oakgov.com.

Ernst Barn
Located near the Greenhouse is the "old Ernst Barn," which may be one of the oldest standing structures in Waterford Township. Staff continues to evaluate the operation of the Greenhouse and the feasibility of preserving the Ernst Barn as recreational or educational venues.
