Oakland County Parks and Recreation is proud to partner with Lathrup Village for BBQ Battle--a BBQ ribs cooking competition on June 14 from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. The battle is part of the Michigan First Summer In The Village festival June 14 & 15.
BBQ Battle is limited to 30 teams on a first-come, first-served basis. Entry fee is $45 per team. Check-in is 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. Competitors may use wood, charcoal or gas. Submit ribs to the judges at 3:30 p.m.

Visit the Oakland County Fair; www.oakfair.org. See animals up close and personal, review 4-H exhibits, enjoy evening entertainment and fireworks! Midway and carnival rides provided by Big Rock Amusements.
Free Entry, Oakland County Parks Days, both Monday, July 7 & Thursday, July 11 with a 2014 Oakland County Parks Annual Vehicle Permit. On Monday, July 7, free entry to the Fair with a 2014 Annual Vehicle Permit and then enjoy a free Nashville Concert from 7-9 p.m.! Musical act To Be Announced soon! For additional fun, with paid admission to the Fair on Friday, July 4, enjoy TJ Craven in Concert from 8-10 p.m.!

The Fall Color Car Classic takes place at the Twin Chimneys area of Independence Oaks County Park and is sponsored by Alhambra Charities. Check out entries in 26 different classes from antique cars and mustangs to trucks and vans and everything in between. Trophies awarded by People's Choice. Door prizes, goodie bags, 50/50 drawing, concession food items and indoor restrooms.

Run through the peak of fall colors at Independence Oaks on packed dirt and crushed limestone trails in some of the most wonderfully decorated hardwood forests in southeastern Michigan. Choose from three races of varying lengths - all begin and end at the same place. 2.5 mile single circuit with rolling hills around Crooked Lake; 5.5 mile race continues a second time around & branches off onto Rock Ridge Trail, and; 8.5 mile race includes a third lap, continuing onto Spring Lake Trail--not for the faint of heart! The price is $18 for early registration with long-sleeve shirt; $8 early registraton without shirt; $20 for late registration, with shirt after Oct. 6, and $10 late registration, without shirt after Oct. 6, 2014. A valid daily or annual vehicle pass is required for park entry.

The free entry also applies at the three dog parks, at Lyon Oaks, Orion Oaks and Red Oaks. Park hours are 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset, or as posted at the park.
