Adaptive Recreation

Oakland County Parks strives to provide recreational and leisure opportunities for all residents of Oakland County. Adaptive Recreation provides therapeutic recreation programs and services.

Our partnerships with more than 30 non-profit agencies, schools and disabled sports organization enable Oakland County Parks to cooperatively provide unique recreation options.

Inclusion services are offered so individuals with disabilities can participate in any program or event hosted by Oakland County Parks. Oakland County Parks encourages and supports the participation of individual with disabilities in all programs.

Five Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists coordinate programs and assist individuals in participating in all programs. For more information, contact doreys@oakgov.com or 248-424-7077.

Individuals with disabilities and a caregiver enjoy FREE carnival rides and free use of Oakland County Parks & Recreation Obstacle Course (socks required) and Climbing Tower. Call the Fair office at 248.634.8830 to reserve your spot, then stop by the hospitality tent to obtain ride passes when you arrive. Free parking wtih Oakland County Parks 2013 Annual Vehicle Permit.
Also enjoy ongoing Fair activities: Petting zoo, Racing pigs, Mirale of Birth Barn, and guided tours of animal barns.
Oakland County International Airport; 7/13/2013 9:30:00 AMAdaptive Recreation
Children with disabilities can experience the world from a new perspective seated beside an experienced pilot in a light airplane with the company of a family member or friend.
Participants will learn about airplanes and how they fly and enjoy refreshments and fun activities before they gently escape gravity and soar into the sky for a bird's eye view of Michigan's countryside.
Each participating individual with a disability receives a Dreams and Wings T-shirt, gold aviator wings and commemorative flight certificate.
Flights are limited and participants are chosen by a lottery drawing. Register by June 14 to be placed in the lottery. Lottery is June 19 and chosen participants will be notified via e-mail by June 24.
Remaining applicants will be placed on a waiting list in case of cancellations. Registration submission does not guarantee your reservation.

Red Oaks Golf Course; 8/23/2013 9:30:00 AMAdaptive Recreation
Red Oaks Golf Course in Madison Heights hosts the 16th annual Warren Orlick Memorial Golf Outing. $45 per golfer includes 9 holes, lunch and prizes. This 9-hole Modified Scramble by Ability is offered to individuals with disabilities. Each team consists of two able-bodied golfers and two golfers with disabilities.
Check in at 9:30 a.m. Tee times start at 10 a.m. Registration and payment is due Aug. 9. Call 248-424-7077 or doreys@oakgov.com for details.
Adaptive Golf Lessons will be held Mondays, May 6 - July 29 from 5 - 6 p.m. at Beech Woods Golf Course. Contact Claudia Brewer, 248.796.4673.
