Adaptive Recreation

Oakland County Parks strives to provide recreational and leisure opportunities for all residents of Oakland County. Adaptive Recreation provides therapeutic recreation programs and services.

Riverwalk Information 

Our partnerships with more than 30 non-profit agencies, schools and disabled sports organization enable Oakland County Parks to cooperatively provide unique recreation options.

Inclusion services are offered so individuals with disabilities can participate in any program or event hosted by Oakland County Parks. Oakland County Parks encourages and supports the participation of individual with disabilities in all programs.

Five Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists coordinate programs and assist individuals in participating in all programs. For more information, contact doreys@oakgov.com or 248-424-7077.

Individuals with disabilities ages 18 and older and friends are invited to an evening outdoors with opportunities to play lawn games and dinner at Novi’s Lakeshore Park. Cost: $12/week. This program is designed to meet the needs of anyone with a disability, or anyone who may be trying to get back into golf following an injury, stroke or surgery.
Throughout the summer, we will offer lessons, clinics and course play-all with the guidance of a pro and a therapist. Try adaptive equipment, learn proper form and solutions to get playing the game of golf. Call Claudia Brewer at 248.796.4673. See Additional Information below.

Red Oaks Golf Course in Madison Heights hosts the 17th annual Warren Orlick Memorial Golf Outing. $45 per golfer includes 9 holes, lunch and prizes. This 9-hole Modified Scramble by Ability is offered to individuals with disabilities. Each team consists of two able-bodied golfers and two golfers with disabilities.
Check in at 9:30 a.m. Tee times start at 10 a.m. Registration and payment is due Aug. 10. Call 248-424-7077 or doreys@oakgov.com for details.
Adaptive Golf Lessons will be held Mondays, May 5 - July 28, 2014 from 5 - 6 p.m. at Beech Woods Golf Course. Contact Claudia Brewer, 248.796.4673.

Music, dinner and dancing. $8/person; pre-registration required. Individuals with disabilities may participate in all general recreation and leisure opportunities. A recreation therapist is available to assist in making your experience a success. Adaptive sports equipment, fishing equipment, trail chairs, pool transfer chairs and hand cycles are available.
