Winter's 'snow reason to stay inside! Venture out and cross-country ski, snowshoe or hike at the Oakland County Parks!

Open cross-country skiing and snowshoeing for those with their own equipment is available at Glen Oaks, Red Oaks, Springfield Oaks, and White Lake Oaks golf courses (no groomed trails or warming areas). Winter hiking is available at on most trails in winter.

Please note that Oakland County Parks and Recreation staff routinely photographs and videotapes guests enjoying Oakland County Parks, facilities, events and equipment. Winter activities specific to each park include:

INDEPENDENCE OAKS

• Nearly 10 miles of groomed and marked trails
• Cross-country ski on all trails except Habitat trail
• Hiking, snowshoeing, and on-leash dog walking allowed on Habitat, River Loop and All-Visitor's trails  
• Ice Skating, conditions permitting, on Crooked Lake
• Oakland County Parks Snow Trekker cross-country ski and snowshoe lessons
• Volunteer Nordic Ski Patrol on duty as available and on weekends to assist skiers. Ski and snowshoe equipment rentals available from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. on weekends. Group rentals are available weekdays by reservation only.
• Ski and Snowshoe rental rates are $10 full set/whole day; $4/single item/4 hours.
• "Learn to Ski" School registration.Warming areas, shelter with fireplace and heated restrooms available. Skiers can also warm up at the nature center (closed Mondays).
• Daily pass or annual vehicle permit is required and can be purchased online or at the park. Purchase pass here.
  

ADDISON OAKS 

• 2.5 mile Buhl Lake Trail is groomed (conditions permitting) for cross-country skiing (skate and classic styles). No rentals available.
• 19 miles of marked trails (not groomed) for those with their own equipment to cross-country ski, snowshoe or hike
• Ice fishing (conditions permitting)
• Portable toilets available
• Daily pass or annual vehicle permit required. Please purchase prior to arrival as permits are not always available at the park. Purchase pass here.

HIGHLAND OAKS

• 1.4 mile trail for hiking or equestrian use
• Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing for those with own equipment (not groomed)
• Portable toilets available
• No warming areas
• Daily pass or annual vehicle permit required. Please purchase prior to arrival as permits are not always available at the park. Purchase pass here.
  

LYON OAKS

• Hiking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing (for those with own equipment) on nearly 6 miles of ungroomed trails.
• Dog park offers off-leash recreation for dogs.
• On-leash dog walking is also allowed on the trails.
• Portable toilets available
• Daily pass or annual vehicle permit required. Please purchase prior to arrival as permits are not always available at the park. Purchase pass here.
  

ORION OAKS

• Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and hiking for those with own equipment (no grooming) 
• Ice fishing (conditions permitting)
• Dog park offers off-leash recreation for dogs
• On-lease dog walking is also allowed onthe trails.
• Portable toilets available 
• No warming areas
• Daily pass or annual vehicle permit required. Please purchase prior to arrival as permits are not always available at the park. Purchase pass here.
  

RED OAKS

• Dog park offers off-leash recreation for dogs

ROSE OAKS

• Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing for those with own equipment (no grooming)
• Trails for hiking and equestrian use
• Ice fishing (conditions permitting)

WATERFORD OAKS

• Hiking and snowshoeing on more than three miles of ungroomed trails 
• Family Sledding Hill
• Portable toilets available
